Healthy Living

This post was written as a reminder for me as well as to share the information with others. As I am attempting to balance my life with the recent responsibilities of caring for my mother and mother-in-law who are not well, I found myself out of my routine and getting into bad habits. For me the first thing was to get enough sleep so I could think more clearly and make better decisions.
“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”

Healthy living styles have great benefits. You can stay fit and active for a longer period of time and what’s more – keeping healthy reduces chances of falling ill and the frequent visits to the doctor.
Remember grandmother’s words of wisdom – “Eat well, sleep well to live well”. Many of us now harbor very different ideas on this. Instead of eating well, we survive on junk food. As for sleeping well – we are up all night and are drowsy in the morning. And we keep on saying again and again, “We live so much better than our forefathers!”
As a matter of fact, we don’t. We succumb to complicated health problems from the time of puberty. And it is high time we get ourselves reorganized. A good balance is what the doctors, dietitians, physiotherapists and your gym trainer keeps talking about.
Make sure to include healthy and nutritious foods in your diet, fresh greens and other essential healthy items among your input of proteins and staples to keep you fit and active throughout the day.
Stop being couch potatoes; it is better to walk around the locality and encourage your kids to join in too. Have at least one meal with your family. This helps you improve your social well being and bring down those rising stress quotients.
Keep aside quality time for regular exercises. Encourage your family to participate too. Your efforts to stay fit will be appreciated by your family members and the kids will pick up the good habit too.
Now that we have talked about eating well and leading a better life, sleeping well is equally important. Make sure you get six to seven hours of nightly sleep to battle the stress and the pressures you go through every day.
Staying healthy requires discipline, demands a bit more of your time management skills, and lastly, depends on your desire to lead a better life.

Cathy,
Great reminders that we should take care of ourselves first and foremost. I desire to live a full life for many, many more years, so I will take this to heart,

I agree Val, the older I get the more I find I want to do. It has to start with taking care of ourselves.

Cathy,
I couldn’t agree with you more. It is important to take care of yourself. I work with a lot of older clients and it is amazing to see the ones that have and haven’t taken care of themselves. It does Show!

Cathy,
This was an excellent post & I can relate to so much of what you say. In 2008, I woke up one day & said, no more excuses. It’s time to get back into a healthy exercise routine (I had been great in college but slacked since). So, I started slow. Now, I’m just finishing Sean T’s Insanity workout & I’m proud of how far I’ve come. Since I’ve made exercise a priority, I’ve been a lot healthier. I rarely get colds, and if I do, they’re gone within a day instead of the months they were lingering on before. It’s helped my energy & attitude too. There are so many positives, and you spell them out so clearly. Now, if I could only get more sleep … that’s a scheduling issue that I still contend with but I do understand the value & am working on it.
Great post!!

Due to our hectic lifestyles that many live they underestimate the importance of stress management. Stress over prolonged periods of time can deplete our bodies of much needed nutrients and vitamins which can have a negative effect on our overall health.
